A Few Thoughts on Choosing Paint Color

Hampton Luzak

Drawing on experience with fashion from her work with Bill Rondina’s Carlisle, Inc., and Eileen West, Hampton Luzak appeared on MSNBC to address a diverse range of fashion topics. Having recently become involved in restoring historic homes across the East Coast, Hampton Luzak maintains an interest in interior design.

An important element of interior design, color choice affects your emotional and physiological response to a room. Estimated to answer for approximately 60 percent of our experience of our surroundings, color has distinct psychological triggers.

If you have no idea where to start with color design, it can help to choose an example, whether from an object like a painting or piece of furniture, or from a photograph of a room to which you feel drawn. Your subconscious experience of liking that item already indicates a positive psychological response. That can help you to choose colors with which you will enjoy living.
Keep in mind you only have seven color options: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Of course, these colors come in endless variations of shade and hue, but it can help immensely to narrow your preference of basic color for each wall or room.
